Allen & Allen Insurance Agency Inc. has been serving clients for over 90 years from the same location in Hasbrouck Heights. Allen & Allen Insurance Agency Inc. opened in 1924 when brothers Floyd and Harlan Allen moved from Beverly Massachusetts, became partners, and opened a real estate office. (The agency still has an office at the original location in Hasbrouck Heights) A year later, Harlan decided it would be advantageous to sell homeowners insurance to his real estate clientele. He quickly got licensed and was appointed to write for The Hartford Insurance Company, which Allen & Allen Insurance Agency Inc.still writes for today.
After a few years in business, Floyd Allen passed away, leaving Harlan the sole owner of the business. Over the next few decades, Harlan grew both the insurance and real estate business by writing insurance for companies like The Hartford, Continental, and Aetna. Harlan was a lifelong resident of Hasbrouck Heights and very committed to the town. He was a founding member of the Hasbrouck Heights Lions Club in 1931, a member of the planning board, assembled the plots of land that now make up Woodland Park, helped build the pavilion and restrooms that are located in the park, and also helped install the original lights at the Hasbrouck Heights Depken Athletic Field.
In the 1960s, Harlan’s son Frederick Allen joined the business selling insurance and practicing law. Harlan built an addition to the Hasbrouck Heights location to include two offices for law work. Frederick took over as president of the company in 1973 and continued to grow the business over the next 20 years. Frederick’s sons Peter and Jeffrey joined the company in 1989 and 1993 respectively. The business has grown substantially to now insure thousands of New Jersey residents and businesses. We currently represent many fine insurance companies such as Hartford, Travelers, MetLife, AIG, Plymouth Rock, Providence Mutual, Encompass (Allstate), and many others.
In 1998, Allen & Allen Insurance Agency Inc. successfully opened a second office in Franklin Lakes, NJ, and continued the expansion of selling insurance in New Jersey. Both locations continue to grow, and the “Allen Brothers” hope a fourth generation will join the organization and continue writing the Allen & Allen Insurance Agency Inc. story for many years to come.

What is an Independent Insurance Agent?
When you decide to buy a car, you wouldn't purchase the first one you see. What if one day the automobile industry decided to make only one type of car, one make and one model. You wouldn't have a choice!
The same situation holds true for insurance. You need insurance to drive a car, to purchase a house, to protect your family's financial future and to run a small business. But if there was only one insurance company that offered only one type of insurance, you wouldn't have a choice. The only solution would be going to that one company.
With an independent insurance agent, you have choices. Independent agents are not tied to any one insurance company. One of the advantages of using an independent agent is that he or she works to satisfy your needs. You are using an expert for an important financial decision.
An independent agent has several companies that he or she can approach to get you the best coverage at the best price. And your independent agent will know the companies with the most efficient claims departments to recover your losses as quickly as possible.
When you buy insurance, you want an advocate who will properly assess the risks you face and give you an objective analysis of the marketplace, because it's up to you to make the final choice.
